Shoulder

Our shoulders are designed to do so many things and reach in so many directions! The down side of this is lessened bony and ligamentous stability, which makes the shoulder especially vulnerable to injury. The muscles most commonly involved are those of the famous rotator cuff.

The majority of shoulder soft tissue injuries heal over time, but because the shoulder is such a mobile joint, exercise therapy is frequently necessary. Ligaments can be damaged to the point that healing is incomplete, and chronic pain can result. Fortunately this responds well to treatment.

Common problems we see and their treatments follow:

Injury or Disease Treatments Often Employed
Recent sprain or strain Manipulation of the area, acupuncture at the area, trigger point injection at the area.
Old, non healed injury and chronic pain Acupuncture, usually local. Prolotherapy to damaged ligaments, exercise and rehabilitation under supervision of physical therapist
Arthritis

Acupuncture to area and distant related points including some on the feet! Nutrients, chinese herbs, Prolotherapy to damaged ligaments

Rotator cuff tear Often requires surgical intervention, otherwise treated as above.
